### AI overview

Google Play is introducing quality requirements for Android apps and games focused on reducing memory usage and improving secure device migration. The article outlines thresholds for dynamic memory, bitmap memory, and DEX code optimization, along with Play Console tools and future diagnostics to help developers meet them.

### Source excerpt

Posted by Raghavendra Hareesh Pottamsetty, GM, Google Play Developer & Monetization Maintaining a healthy Android ecosystem is a shared commitment where every app and game has a role to play. To help you deliver the premium experiences users expect, Google Play is introducing two new quality requirements: one focused on reducing app memory footprint, and another on providing a secure, seamless device migration experience. First, to help developers navigate industry-wide hardware constraints and Android's broader memory limits, Google Play is establishing new performance thresholds. Second, as part of our broader commitment to elevate app quality, we are introducing a new onboarding standard to simplify and secure login during device upgrades. Reducing app memory usage and optimizing code The mobile industry is navigating significant hardware supply constraints that are altering device memory availability that over time can negatively impact the user experience. Android is addressing this challenge head-on with broader memory limits that aim to protect the overall user experience from apps using excess memory and causing system-wide slowdowns. Building on this, today Google Play is establishing performance thresholds to help developers ensure their apps continue to deliver the premium experience users expect. This includes new thresholds across dynamic memory usage, bitmap usage, and code optimization to prevent unexpected on-device performance throttling and app terminations. Dynamic memory usage (anonymous RSS + swap): This tracks the memory used for your app's private data storage, including both active and compressed memory. It excludes files stored on the device, such as code or assets. We will assess this usage across different app states (like when your app is in use or running in the background) and device performance categories. Bitmap memory usage: This evaluates the memory consumed by bitmaps. While bitmaps occupy memory when your app is in the foreground,

Vercel Connect now offers a managed Linq connector that lets applications and agents send and receive messages through iMessage, RCS, and SMS. It can provision or link Linq accounts and phone numbers, manage credentials, and integrate with eve through a configured channel. Projects can use the @vercel/connect SDK and deployment OIDC identity to obtain short-lived Linq tokens for Linq Partner API requests.

### Source excerpt

Vercel Connect now includes a managed connector for Linq, so your apps and agents can send and receive messages over iMessage, RCS, and SMS. As a Vercel Managed Connector, Vercel can create a Linq account and phone number for you, or link an existing account. You never manage credentials yourself. Create a connector from the dashboard or Vercel CLI: Give your eve agent a phone number The connector powers the new Linq channel in eve. Run eve add channel/linq, choose Vercel Connect, and eve wires up the connector, phone numbers, and webhook for you: The channel marks accepted messages as read and continues the same eve session for every message in a Linq conversation. Out of the box, the channel supports read receipts, typing indicators, and mid-conversation steering for a more natural messaging experience. Use the connector in any project Call getToken with your connector, and the @vercel/connect SDK exchanges your Vercel deployment's OIDC identity for a short-lived Linq token. Pass it as the bearer token on any Linq Partner API request: Linq delivers each message over the best protocol the recipient supports, starting with iMessage, then RCS, then SMS. The same token works across the full Linq API, including group chats, reactions, rich media, and typing indicators. Read the Vercel Connect documentation, view details about the Linq connector in the Vercel Connect catalog, or create a Linq connector to get started. Read more

Vercel Connect lets apps and agents built in v0 securely connect to more than 100 services, including Slack, Google, Notion, GitHub, and Salesforce. It provides guided connector setup, reusable team configuration, managed app registration for some services, and short-lived runtime tokens. Examples include a voice-controlled browser agent that generates Playwright code and a dashboard combining Slack, Gmail, and Linear information.

### Source excerpt

Apps and agents built in v0 can now securely connect to more than 100 services, including Slack, Google, Notion, GitHub, and Salesforce, through Vercel Connect. Ask v0 to connect your app to a service. It opens the connector setup and guides you through it. You set up each connector once for your team, then reuse it across apps. For managed connectors like Slack and GitHub, Vercel handles app registration, so you don't need to create or configure an app with the provider. For other services, you can provide your own credentials. In both cases, Vercel Connect issues short-lived tokens at runtime, so your application doesn't need to store or rotate long-lived secrets. Using v0 and Vercel Connect, Danny from KERNEL built a voice-controlled browser agent that generates Playwright code to operate a real browser. We built a personal dashboard that brings Slack messages, Gmail, and Linear issues into one view and summarizes what needs attention. Read the documentation or try it yourself in v0: Read more

### AI overview

The article argues that AI makes it easier for more people to build working applications, but this is not equivalent to engineering enterprise software. Once a system becomes business-critical, concerns such as data protection, resilience, maintainability, auditability, and scale become central.

### Source excerpt

TL;DR Why building an app over the weekend isn't the same as building enterprise software I've noticed an interesting gap opening up over the last six months. It isn't really a gap in technology. It's a gap in what different people think software engineering actually is. The conversation usually starts the same way. A non-techie, maybe an executive, tells me about something they've built over the weekend. Sometimes it's a chatbot. Sometimes it's an internal workflow. Sometimes it's a surprisingly polished application that solves a real business problem. They're excited, and they should be. Twelve months ago they probably couldn't have built it at all. Then comes the question. "If AI can do this now, why aren't our engineering teams delivering ten times faster?" It's a perfectly reasonable question, after all we've all seen the demos. The first thing that would come to my head is "you don't know what it takes to build enterprise grade software". But then I think about what I mean and how to explain it to a non-technical person without sounding super patronising. And then it hit me, we did this to ourselves. We've spent so many years banging on about how to write good software that everyone has assumed writing software is the same as software engineering. The application someone builds over the weekend is real software. It likely solves a real problem or demonstrates an idea. Sometimes it's genuinely impressive. I don't want to diminish that because I think one of the most exciting things AI has done is dramatically increase the number of people who can turn ideas into working software. That's cool, I totally get it. The first apps and "hello worlds" I ever built excited me enough to choose this as an actual career so the excitement is real and I don't want to temper it too much. But your first hello world, which these days can be an entire app with all kinds of features, is very, very (extra very on purpose) different from introducing software into a production envir
