### AI overview

A tutorial for development teams on building endpoint data loss prevention strategies. It covers auditing laptops for secrets and sensitive data, removing unnecessary copies, rotating exposed credentials, and establishing access controls.

A developer's laptop holds more sensitive data than most people realize: API keys, database credentials, staging environment secrets, and sometimes entire copies of production data pulled down "just f

### AI overview

Latacora describes its sponsorship of Strange Loop 2023, the questions attendees asked at its booth, and its security consultancy and service offerings. The article says the sponsorship was intended to support a developer-focused conference and bring people together, rather than generate sales leads or job applicants.

### Source excerpt

The last Strange Loop conference was held September 21-22, 2023 at St. Louis Union Station. The conference is targeted towards developers; the speakers are often sharing their knowledge on new and inventive ways to use technology. At our sponsor booth at Union Station, attendees asked two (okay, three) questions most often: What is Latacora? Your name is on the lanyards, and I'm curious to know what you do. Why sponsor Strange Loop? Can I take a plant? The first one isn't hard for the folks from our team: Latacora is a consultancy that bootstraps security for startups. We have a team of experts helping our clients with most security-related things: application security, cloud security, corporate security, compliance, and more. We also have a team of security architects, cryptographers, and project managers supporting our clients. These professionals are equipped with power tools built to make their jobs more efficient and to help our clients improve their security posture.

A personal review of Clifford Stoll's The Cuckoo's Egg, describing its portrayal of a system administrator tracking a hacker and its depiction of early Unix, networked computing, and IT security. The author says the book influenced their interest in Unix systems and security.

### Source excerpt

Kukułcze jajo Ekscytujące łowy na nieuchwytnego hackera Author: Clifford Stoll I've read it in Polish, so I kept polish picture. This book had a huge impact on how I perceive IT security. It was the way that shaped my fascination by Unix systems and probably impacted some of my decisions about my future 😉 It's a fascinating lecture on the battle between "sys admin" (actually an astronomer external link and kinda random guy, but with a skill) and a hacker. Cold war times. Quite "analog" IT systems, printers as terminals, etc. A time machine to the beginnings of networks and Internet. It was at a time when there was no encryption on services. Computers were powerful machines taking whole rooms and you could work with them only via terminal. A different world, but that's how it all started.
