Google and Speakeasy are open-sourcing an OpenAPI code generation suite under the AGPLv3 license after the shutdown of Google's previous proprietary SDK provider. The suite generates deterministic, multi-language client libraries and supports strict typing, streaming, agent-native CLIs, and documentation MCP servers.

### Source excerpt

Google has partnered with Speakeasy to open-source their OpenAPI code generation suite under the AGPLv3 license, a strategic move prompted by the sudden shutdown of Google's previous proprietary SDK provider. The newly open-sourced suite equips developers with deterministic, multi-language SDK generators that natively support strict typing and SSE streaming, alongside tools for compiling agent-native CLIs and documentation MCP servers. Engineering teams can now safely integrate this robust tooling directly into their CI pipelines to automatically generate reliable client libraries for their own APIs, all while retaining complete licensing control over the output code.

The article warns of an ongoing campaign targeting Rust-lang members and maintainers of popular crates. Attackers reportedly use video calls and social engineering to trick targets into installing malicious software or executing commands, with the goal of publishing malware through compromised accounts. It recommends delaying dependency upgrades to help detect supply-chain attacks.

### Source excerpt

Be alert: targeted attacks on prominent Rustaceans Important warning from Adam Harvey and the crates security team: We believe that there is an ongoing campaign targeting rust-lang members and owners of popular crates that is attempting to compromise devices and accounts in order to use them to publish malware. A video call is set up for something positive -- maybe for a job, maybe for a project, maybe for a contract opportunity -- and then that's used as a vector to either get the target to install something on their computer (such as a purportedly missing audio codec) or execute another command (for example, via putting a command on the clipboard). Last month this trick was used in a successful supply chain attack against the array ref crate, among others. Any piece of software that depends on open source (which is almost every piece of software) has a network of human beings who are potential attack vectors - everyone with publishing rights to any of the packages in the dependency network for that software. I guess our best defense right now is dependency cooldowns - giving new package releases a few days before upgrading to them, in the hope that supply chain attacks like this will be spotted by someone else. ### AI overview

Vercel Sandbox now supports running Harbor evaluations, including Terminal-Bench and other benchmarks. Each trial runs in an isolated Firecracker microVM, with network policies enforced by an external sandbox firewall and optional credential injection. AI Gateway enables benchmarking models from multiple providers using Harbor.

### Source excerpt

You can now run Harbor evals on Vercel Sandbox. Harbor is the open-source harness behind Terminal-Bench, whose registry includes many other benchmarks such as SWE-bench, tau3-bench and OSWorld. Pass --env vercel to harbor run and each trial executes in its own isolated Firecracker microVM, so you can parallelize far beyond what your local machine is capable of. A task's network policy is enforced at the sandbox firewall, outside the VM. Optional credential injection attaches secrets to matching outbound requests at that firewall, so they never enter the sandbox. Paired with AI Gateway, one AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY reaches hundreds of models from multiple providers, and benchmarking another model is the same command with a different --model: Swap --model to vercel_ai_gateway/openai/gpt-5.6-luna to run the same benchmark against an OpenAI model. Requires Harbor 0.22.0 or later. Follow the step-by-step guide for setup, configuration, and troubleshooting. Learn more in the Sandbox documentation. Read more

Google's 2026 GSoC India tour brought together contributors, mentors, and open source maintainers in Bengaluru and Delhi. The article highlights how mentorship helps developers tackle difficult codebases, grow into community leaders, and build local open source ecosystems, while discussing the continuing importance of human context and maintainer attention in an AI-assisted world.

### Source excerpt

by Mary Radomile, Stephanie Taylor & amanda casari, OSPO For over twenty years, Google Summer of Code (GSoC) has welcomed new developers into open source by pairing them with experienced mentors on real projects. This spirit is especially vibrant in India, which is home to more than 55% of all global GSoC participants over the last decade. This July, our team traveled across Bengaluru and Delhi to host a series of developer events and debut our first-ever GSoC Alumni CAMP, bringing together members of India's vibrant GSoC alumni community. We engaged directly with current and former GSoC Contributors, Mentors, and project maintainers, experiencing firsthand the passion and energy of the Indian developer ecosystem. Community stories: Learning to think and lead as an engineer In both Bengaluru and Delhi, a highlight of the trip was hearing directly how open source and GSoC have fundamentally changed how developers think and work. For many attendees, having a dedicated open source mentor through GSoC took the fear out of tackling new and intimidating codebases. One former participant told us they almost walked away from a distributed storage project because it felt too overwhelming: "Storage systems felt impossible. But great mentors taught me how to think, not just how to code." Another echoed that shift in perspective: "Why am I spending so much time thinking rather than coding? Then I realized that building products is actually about thinking more than coding. GSoC taught me to think like an engineer." That shift in mindset turns first-time contributors into long-term open source community leaders. We met one developer who submitted their very first pull request in 2023, started mentoring in 2024, and is now a lead maintainer for a major open source Android app. We also saw how new contributors to global projects can spark entire local ecosystems--like the Indian compiler community, which started with a few GSoC alumni and has rapidly grown into a 3,500+ member netwo

Airbnb describes extending its sequence-based recommender with Chronon's Push Mode and Near-real-time Model Transform capabilities. The changes update guest activity and model features more quickly, reducing the staleness of search-ranking inputs compared with the previous daily batch pipeline.

### Source excerpt

How two new Chronon capabilities, Push Mode and NRT Model Transform, allows us to provide more relevant search results instantly as a guest explores, rather than waiting for the next batch run. By: Pengyu Hou, Yuli Han, Daochen Zha, Haozhen Ding, Xin Liu, Sophie Wang, Pallavi Adusumilli, Sherry Li, Henry Saputra, Chun How Tan, Huiji Gao, Yan Zhang, Stephanie Moyerman, Yi Li, and Sanjeev Katariya A guest's interaction with Airbnb doesn't pause to wait for a nightly batch job. Someone might browse a dozen listings on a Tuesday afternoon, run a new search that evening, and expect the next search to reflect the recent activity; it's also to Airbnb's benefit for that to be the case. In our previous post, Personalizing Airbnb search by learning from the guest journey, we described how we built a Transformer-based sequence encoder that creates better, more personalized search rankings for a guest using the booking, review, and browsing data that is most relevant to them -- their own. That system ran as a daily batch job: each night it processed the previous day's activity and refreshed embeddings for guests who had something new to show for it. That design worked well, but it left a gap. Activity from earlier the same day wouldn't show up in the embedding until the following day's run, on top of the pipeline's own processing lag -- in practice, up to nearly two days of staleness. For a guest actively planning a trip, that meant the ranking model was often working from a slightly outdated picture of what they wanted, and the recent activities are often highly relevant to current search needs. This is a limitation that our original JourneyFormer research had already flagged as needing new serving infrastructure to solve. In this post, we describe how we closed that gap by adding two new capabilities to Chronon, Airbnb's feature platform: Near-real-time Model Transform and Push Mode. Chronon is an open source project, and these capabilities have been contributed back to our pub
