Django and JetBrains are running a fall fundraiser in which new or renewed PyCharm licenses are offered at a 30% discount, with JetBrains matching the contribution to the Django Software Foundation. The campaign supports Django maintenance, community programs, events, contributor onboarding, and the Foundation's planned Executive Director role.

### Source excerpt

We are back with our friends at JetBrains for the second of the two "Buy PyCharm, Support Django" fundraisers we run together each year. Our spring campaign was the first. It remains one of the most impactful ways the community can support the Django Software Foundation. Your support of this campaign helps fund key initiatives such as: A Django Executive Director: Funding our first Executive Director, who will lead fundraising, operations, and community coordination for the Foundation. Django Fellows: Ensuring the rapid development and maintenance of Django. Django Girls: Making the Django community accessible to programming beginners around the world. International events and conferences: Supporting DjangoCons, one-day events, meetups, and other community gatherings around the world. Djangonaut Space: Onboarding new contributors to the Django project. The Executive Director role is new, which is why this campaign matters more than usual. The DSF raises around $300,000 a year today. Reaching $500,000 is what makes a full-time Executive Director sustainable, and campaigns like this one are how we close that gap. If leading that work sounds like you, applications are open until September 14, 2026. How the campaign works The campaign runs until September 10, 2026. When you buy a new PyCharm license or renew an existing one at a 30% discount through our special campaign link, JetBrains will donate an equal amount to the Django Software Foundation. You get a professional IDE that is trusted by Django developers worldwide, and the DSF receives a matched contribution. Get 30% off PyCharm, Support Django Thank you, JetBrains Beyond this campaign, JetBrains contributes to the Django ecosystem in ways that are easy to overlook but hard to overstate. The 2026 Django Developers Survey was published earlier this summer, and along with the Python Developers Survey, it gives the entire community a clearer picture of where Django and Python are heading each year. AWS has committed $20,000 per month in credits for 2026-27 to support cache.nixos.org and releases.nixos.org. The announcement describes this as a continuation of a multi-year partnership with the NixOS Foundation and Community.

### Source excerpt

Happy Monday, and hopefully a good 4 weeks before NixCon week to everyone! Some very good news for us today. AWS has committed the next chapter of its support for the NixOS Foundation & Community: $20,000 per month in AWS credits for the 2026-27 period, nearly a quarter of a million dollars, to help keep cache.nixos.org and releases.nixos.org running. A few years ago, this partnership started as an urgent effort to close an immediate infrastructure funding gap. Today, it has grown into a durable multi-year partnership, with AWS making its largest financial commitment to date. Huge thank you to the AWS Open Source and Open Data teams, the Nix Infra team, and everyone who shared their Nix + AWS stories with us over the last few months (y'all know who you are!). Your experiences genuinely helped us make the case. Some of your stories appeared in the initial thread and a lot more came in via DMs! Looking for Nix + AWS usage stories We still have important work ahead on cost efficiency, resilience, and the long-term sustainability of this infrastructure. Lots of progress has been made by the infra team over the last 12 months! More to come here as well! Steve (Staff Writer @ Flox) has been volunteering with the Infra & AWS teams and will publish a much deeper blog very soon covering the scale, technical work, and what comes next. I don't want to steal his thunder, so more on that shortly. For now: big heart to everyone who helped get this over the line. ### AI overview

This article examines SpaceX's commercial spinoff as the internalization of an anchor customer. It explains how the spinoff consumes the parent's launch output at marginal cost, traces its deployment, service rollout, integration, subscriber and revenue development, direct-to-cell expansion, capital requirements, and regulation, and compares the configuration with other satellite-constellation businesses.

### Source excerpt

This article is the eleventh in the History of SpaceX series and the third and last treating the capital-formation legs that the series opener introduced. The category-dominating commercial spinoff concerns the business the venture built on top of its own capability, and the article's organizing claim is that the spinoff is not a diversification into an adjacent market but the internalization of an anchor customer. Where the Anchor Demand article A283 treats a government customer buying launches, this article treats the venture becoming the customer it had previously needed someone else to be. The decisive economic property is not that the spinoff grew large. It is that the spinoff consumes the parent's output at marginal cost while every competitor attempting the same business must pay a market price the parent sets. The article walks the January 2015 announcement and the capacity argument that motivated it, the deployment sequence from the first operational batch of May 2019 through the service beta of 2020 and the commercial rollout of 2021, the vertical integration and the internal transfer price that the whole arrangement turns upon, the coupling between constellation deployment and launch cadence, the subscriber and revenue trajectory across the 2020 through drafting-date period, the direct-to-cell extension beginning with the carrier partnership announced in 2022, the capital intensity and the replenishment obligation that a short-lifetime constellation imposes, and the regulatory position across the Federal Communications Commission, the International Telecommunication Union, and the national regulators whose authorizations the service requires. The article contrasts the configuration against the Iridium and Globalstar precedents, in which comparable constellations were built without a captive launch capability, and against the OneWeb and Kuiper cases, in which competitors attempted the business while buying launch at market. The article closes with an expli

Google Play is expanding its privacy-preserving Age Signals API to all Play developers globally. The API lets parents share a child's age range with apps through Google Family Link, enabling developers to tailor safety experiences, content, features, and settings to different audiences. The rollout starts with Australia and Canada after its existing availability in Brazil, followed by a global rollout later in 2026.

### Source excerpt

Posted by Paul Feng, VP of Product Management, Google Play Providing a safe online experience and protecting users from harm is a top priority at Google Play. We take this responsibility seriously and have been investing continuously to offer baseline protections on our platform while also empowering parents with the tools they need to make decisions for their families. Importantly, we also want to empower Play developers with the capabilities to deliver age-appropriate experiences based on their app's content. To support this, today, we are taking another big step in our ongoing partnership with parents and developers by announcing the expansion of the Google Play Age Signals API to all Play developers globally. Building on current availability in Brazil, we will expand this experience first to users in Australia and Canada by mid-August, with a full global rollout to all users later this year. Empowering developers to create age-appropriate experiences The Play Age Signals API is a privacy-preserving tool that puts parents in the driver's seat allowing them to share their child's age range (e.g. 16-17) directly with apps. It also enables adults to easily share their age when prompted by the app developer. In turn, developers receive the signals they need to tailor their own in-app safety experiences and content for users in an age-appropriate way. We want to give developers the ability to choose the right protections for the nature of their app. A weather app, for example, shouldn't need the same safety settings as entertainment or media apps. Rather than enforcing one-size-fits-all rules, we give developers the flexibility to choose how they integrate safety signals. With this reliable signal, you retain complete agency to tailor your app's content, features, and settings to match your audience. Users have a choice to share their age range in a privacy-friendly way Simplifying controls for parents Parents shouldn't have to manage complex safety settings across do
