A Visual Studio profiling walkthrough for finding hidden latency in a distributed .NET application by isolating the process responsible for a slow interaction and determining whether it is computing or waiting.

When a distributed application feels slow, the user sees one delay. The code behind that delay may run across a web frontend, backend services, databases, and external APIs. If you profile only the frontend while the backend is slow, the profiler can show that the frontend is healthy without revealing the actual bottleneck. ### AI overview

GitLab Achievements lets teams create reusable custom badges and award them for contributions, milestones, certifications, or other behaviors. Awards appear on recipients' profiles after they accept them, and optional personal messages support GitLab Flavored Markdown. The feature is presented as a way to reinforce recognition, retention, motivation, and belonging across companies, open source projects, and communities.

### Source excerpt

Every team runs on people who go above and beyond. The engineer who fixes the flaky test nobody else will touch. The reviewer who turns your merge request around in an hour. The teammate who finishes their certification. Or the community member who shows up release after release. Whether your team is a company, an open source project, or a community, GitLab had no built-in way to say "we see you." GitLab Achievements changes that. What are GitLab Achievements? An achievement is a custom badge you create once and award to people for their behavior. That might be a contribution, a milestone, or simply getting the most out of GitLab. Each one has a name, a description, and an avatar. Think "First merged MR", "Certified", or "Contributor of the month". Awarded achievements appear on the recipient's profile, alongside their contribution history. There are two halves to the achievement. The achievement itself is a reusable template you define at the group level. Awarding that achievement to someone is a separate action, and it can carry an optional personal message. That message supports GitLab Flavored Markdown, so you can link straight to the merge request, issue, or event that earned it. The same "Contributor of the month" badge can then tell a different story every time you award it. Recipients stay in control. An award doesn't appear on anyone's profile until they accept it using a link from an email notification. Recognition is offered, never forced onto someone's profile. Achievements are generally available as of GitLab 19.2, across Free, Premium, and Ultimate, on GitLab.com, GitLab Self-Managed, and GitLab Dedicated. Why recognition matters Recognition is one of the least expensive, most effective tools you have for retention, motivation, and belonging. A visible badge on a profile costs you a minute to award and gives the recipient something lasting. And "team" is broad: It might be your company, your open source project, or your wider community. The value depen

It also describes a benchmark parsing three JSON documents with separately trained PGO builds and comparing their speed against a profile-free baseline.

### Source excerpt

When a compiler optimizes your program, it has to guess. Which functions are worth inlining? Which side of a branch is the common one? Which method does this interface call actually reach? At compile time it cannot know, so it uses heuristics. Profile-guided optimization (PGO) replaces the guessing with measurement: you run your program, record ... ### AI overview

A GSoC 2026 proposal for Haiku aims to modernize the operating system's Bluetooth stack and implement the Bluetooth HID profile. The planned work includes completing HCI commands, improving pairing and Link Key persistence, and handling disconnection and timeout events.

### Source excerpt

Hello! I'm Mohammed R. Attia, a 2nd-year Computer Science Student. I've been accepted into Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 with Haiku, with my proposal titled "Modernizing Haiku's Bluetooth Stack: HCI Completion and HID Profile Implementation." About Me I consider myself a competitive programmer and a software engineer. I haven't decided on a specific specialization in software engineering just yet; rather, I'm interested in systems development and low-level programming. You can check my GitHub for more information about my latest projects. I go by the handle mohammedrattia in many places on the internet, so feel free to reach out :). How did I get here? I first learned about Haiku while searching for GSoC organizations to contribute to. It was my first time learning about a desktop operating system other than the famous trio: Windows, macOS, and Linux. So, I started by reading the GSoC guide and joining IRC. I remember that the process was smooth because the guide contained everything, and people on IRC were welcoming and supportive. Then, I started working towards building Haiku, and I got my first commit merged into Haiku after several days. Current Goals The main goal of my proposal in GSoC is to modernize the Bluetooth stack. Currently, the Bluetooth stack in Haiku can't communicate effectively with modern Bluetooth devices because of the outdated standards it uses. However, making the Bluetooth core perfectly align with modern standards won't benefit Haiku users because it would still need a Bluetooth Profile to perform a useful task. One of the most common uses of Bluetooth is Human Interface Devices (HID) (e.g., keyboards and mice). Accordingly, this project will build the HID Bluetooth profile to provide useful functionality for Haiku users. The following three sub-sections contain a brief specification for the goals of the project from my GSoC proposal. Modern HCI Event & Command Handling Build upon the recent SSP/EIR groundwork by implementing the remai

### AI overview

This tutorial demonstrates how to use Releem to investigate and optimize SQL queries from a Spring application running on MySQL. It uses Spring Petclinic, a JMeter test plan, and load-related CPU and I/O metrics to identify time-consuming queries and apply optimization recommendations.

Introduction In this article, I'm going to show you how to optimize the queries executed by a Spring application running on MySQL using Releem. For a short introduction about Releem, check out this previous article, in which I explained how to set up Releem to collect metrics from your MySQL database. Spring Petclinic application The application under test is going to be the well-known Spring Petclinic that we are going to run using the MySQL profile: After starting the application, we are going to run the petclinic_test_plan.jmx JMeter test plan that is...
