### AI overview

Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and Claude chat into one Claude experience. The change is rolling out first to Pro and Max users in the Claude app across web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks. The author notes that the practical feature and surface boundaries remain unclear.

### Source excerpt

Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude In hopefully good news for anyone who, like me, was increasingly confused at Cowork v.s. Claude v.s. Claude Code: Starting today, Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude. Bring a quick question, or hand over a report due at noon, and Claude takes it from there, even after you've closed your laptop. [...] This is rolling out to Pro and Max plans first, in the Claude app on web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks to existing and new users on these plans. I guess this means Claude is becoming a general agent in its own right. Echoes of OpenAI renaming their Codex desktop app to ChatGPT a few weeks ago. On the one hand, this saves me some work, in that I was planning to finally figure out the boundaries between Cowork and regular Claude and write a follow-up to my piece on Understanding ChatGPT Work. I have a hunch that figuring out what this actually means in terms of features and surfaces is still going to take quite a bit of work. ### AI overview

Bryan Cantrill argues that sweeping claims about AI causing catastrophic harm rely on vague extrapolation, including unsupported references to critical infrastructure and bioweapons. The article calls on domain experts to make alarmist claims more carefully and avoid abusing public trust.

### Source excerpt

The contagion of fear Bryan Cantrill responds to the tweet by former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon confirming that many Anthropic researchers believe AI "could kill us all by the end of the decade". Bryan shares a story of his own youthful mistakes causing unjustified panic among less technical peers, and warns against doing the same: These ghoulish claims strike brazenly at the hearth, and given the obvious importance of AI, it is unsurprising that they have leapt into the mainstream, with people asking the natural question: how would that happen? The answers always rely on hand-wavy extrapolation into the future; for example, Jacob Coxon cites "hacking critical infrastructure" and "extinction-level bioweapons" without further elaboration. But Coxon is not an expert on critical infrastructure, nor on bioweapons -- nor, for that matter, on extinction. [...] That said, we should not expect the public to understand LLMs, critical infrastructure, bioweapons, extinction biology, etc. -- that burden must lie with those making the claim. The lesson that I learned (shamefully) decades ago is that domain experts, by way of their expertise, implicitly hold the public's trust -- and we must not abuse it. It is incumbent upon us to be circumspect in our claims -- and maximally so when raising the alarm. Bryan talked about his doubts about the bioweapons concerns in the recent episode of Oxide and Friends that I joined. You can hear more of his thoughts on that starting at 51m44s in that episode. Here's 57m04s: I really think we need to be careful because it's so easy to be overcome with fear when we kind of make up these... it can give you biological weapons. Like, how? I mean, can we please have a biologist weigh in on this? Or can we have like someone who's got experience with bioweapons? [...] The bioweapon thing just gets under my fingernails because it leaves so much to the imagination that we insert with fear. Via Lobste.rs Tags: ai, anthropic, bryan-cantrill, ai-ethics

### AI overview

This opinion article responds to arguments about AI risk and pacing frontier development. It focuses primarily on persistent botnets, the difficulty of monitoring large-scale AI systems, and the potential effects of advanced models on people.

### Source excerpt

This week some flavor of "AI is going to kill us all" went viral. In particular one where an employee put his personal probability of that happening above 10%. Which made me go to the Wikipedia page of P(doom) and I realized that Dario Amodei's apparent probability of something bad happening seems to be between 10-25%. And well, Dario then wrote about pacing the frontier . And Sam read it and wants to pace too. And well, so does Musk. I encourage you strongly to read the post, because I think it's a good one. And yet, when I read the post I could not help but feel in strong opposition to it, despite the fact that I think I'm on the same page with regard to all observations and, to a large degree, the concerns. I thought it might be interesting to write down my present-day thoughts on this, even if for no other reason than for myself to look back at it a year or two from now. What Is Doom? What I really appreciate about Dario's post is that he lays out a scenario that is not a huge stretch but also one that describes a clear, unfortunate outcome we should fight: persistent botnets and other forms of nuisance. And well, we don't have to look very far to see the issues left and right. Wikipedia has a page called 2026 OpenAI agent cyberattacks which gives you at least some overview of what we figured out agents have hacked up to this point. Except I know it's not up to date, because for instance they also poisoned RubyGems. Today these systems might be annoying, but they can be turned off when we figure out where they are. Except, it seems like OpenAI and Anthropic are operating at such a scale that they seemingly can be completely blind to what their systems are doing. I don't think we are anywhere close to a world where an agent might decide to hack into core inference infrastructure to upload weights to other GPUs to survive. But simultaneously it's entirely in the realm of possibility and primarily curtailed by the labs probably being particularly careful about thei

Production code written by Claude should have a higher bar than if it was written by a human. At Anthropic, we have many guardrails in place to make sure this is happening: lots of lint rules, lots of tests, Claude-driven end to end tests, Claude-powered fuzzers running daily, automated code reviews and security reviews, automated code refactoring, and so on. Without these, you can end up with a mess that is hard to maintain down the line. -- Boris Cherny Tags: claude, ai, claude-code, llms, coding-agents, ai-assisted-programming, generative-ai, agentic-engineering, boris-cherny, anthropic

Tenable announces plans to integrate Claude Mythos 5 into Tenable One. Its planned Adversary View capability is intended to help security teams identify vulnerability chains, model attacker progression, and prioritize actions across exposure management.

### Source excerpt

Tenable is bringing Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 into our enterprise security offerings. Adding frontier adversarial reasoning to the Tenable One Exposure Management Platform will help customers better anticipate how attackers could breach their environments and stay ahead of AI-fueled risk. Tenable One Adversary View, the first innovation planned from this work, will debut in the coming weeks. Key takeaways Claude Mythos 5 is coming to Tenable One. In addition to using Claude Mythos 5 for research and evaluation, Tenable will now incorporate it within Tenable One, giving defenders access to frontier cyber reasoning to tackle complex exposure management challenges. Tenable One Adversary View is the first innovation we'll deliver to our customers. Adversary View will use Claude Mythos 5 to help security teams uncover hidden vulnerability chains, see their environments from an attacker's perspective, and identify the actions that can disrupt attacker progression. Adversary View is just the beginning. Combining Claude Mythos 5's advanced cyber reasoning with the breadth and depth of Tenable One sets up a new generation of AI-powered capabilities across exposure management. Bringing Claude Mythos 5 into Tenable One Security teams face more findings than they can possibly triage using conventional methods. Add cloud, operational technology (OT), shadow AI, and identity data to the attack surface, and the volume of signals keeps growing while the time to act keeps shrinking. Finding exposures is no longer the hardest part. The challenge is understanding which combinations of exposures create the greatest risk, how an attacker could exploit them, and what to fix first. While leveraging frontier models for improving security defenses is still relatively new, bringing those models into customer-facing products is at the leading edge. Today, we are sharing how Tenable is combining Claude Mythos 5 with the exposure intelligence in Tenable One. Mythos 5 provides frontier-scale a
