### AI overview

This interview highlights Javier Flores's work as a Cypress Ambassador, QA Automation Lead, mentor, and bootcamp instructor. It discusses practical Cypress testing, Cucumber exercises, interactive time-travel debugging, automatic waiting, deterministic tests, stable selectors, and beginner-friendly end-to-end testing practices.

### Source excerpt

What motivates you to be a Cypress Ambassador? I want to help grow a strong, practical testing community around Cypress. I show people working code and let them build confidence by doing. That's the same philosophy behind the bootcamp I run: everyone leaves with their own repo, not just notes. How do you currently help others that are either using Cypress or interested in using Cypress? I mentor teammates and collaborate closely with developers and product owners to improve testing practices

Jane Street describes how it educates developers through team apprenticeship, mentorship, code review, collaboration, OCaml Bootcamp, and later specialized teach-ins. The classes also spread knowledge about internal systems, tools, and engineering practices.

### Source excerpt

Like most places, Jane Street largely teaches developers through a kind of apprenticeship model. A team matching process tries to thoughtfully match new devs to a team that suits them; and from there carefully chosen projects, one-on-one mentorship, code review, and close collaboration with people "on the row" - teammates sitting near you - does most of the rest.

Louise Reid describes moving from retail and system support into software engineering. She discusses online courses, a 16-week CodeClan bootcamp, her time as an instructor, and her eventual focus on front-end development before joining Skyscanner.

### Source excerpt

Louise Reid, Software Engineer As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day this week, we're profiling female-identifying engineers across Skyscanner's business. Here, Louise Reid tells us how she took the leap from retail to software engineering, what her day to day looks like, her advice for anyone looking to career change, and how the perception of engineering being male-dominated is changing. Louise, you didn't set out to be an engineer -- what was the path that took you from retail to where you are now? I didn't: I have a honours degree in Business and Management. Honestly, going through school, the concept of working as a software developer was so far off my radar. During my degree I worked in hospitality and really enjoyed it, so for a while saw myself working in hospitality management in some shape or form. After uni I travelled in Australia for a bit and then went back to my role in retail with a large well-known shoe retailer, before moving to head office there and working in system-support for the stores. At 29 I found myself in a job that didn't excite me and wasn't really going anywhere. I was really good at my job, but there wasn't a huge amount much transferable knowledge I could take from it into other roles, as a lot of it was in house-built systems. I was also at the level that any progression was reliant on someone above me leaving or the company expanding in some way. It wasn't until I started working with developers there that I started to think of software engineering as a path I could take too. I dipped my toe in the water a little, doing some free online courses with Code Academy, which I really enjoyed. I was then pointed in the direction of CodeClan by my line manager and introduced to their 16 week software development bootcamp. After completing the course I still had a sense of "I don't know what I want to do" and whilst I got offered a few development roles, none of them really excited me. I ended up staying at CodeClan as a cla

Thanks for all the great feedback on my last post, I got some wonderful app suggestions from some of you and some interesting questions. Overall, there were more than 100 comments and emails so I apologize if I took too long to answer some of you. I already mentioned the focus of these coming courses is to let you create apps in a more practical form: "cook book" style. But while I talked a bit about the narrative and the course I didn't explain exactly how or why this will work effectively.

The post also discusses planned Codename One 3.7 work, including a possible GUI builder overhaul and unfinished on-device debugging.

### Source excerpt

You might have noticed that I haven't been committing as much code recently. It's because I've been working on 3 new online Codename One courses. One of my main goals with the bootcamp was to improve my video skills and modernize course materials. I'm well on my way with both and created pretty exhaustive materials so far. Since these courses require a lot of work it's hard to provide a set date for their release but I hope I'll be able to publish at least the first two soon... Currently the plan is to release an introductory course, an advanced course & a professional app building course.

A developer update discusses heavy workloads on Mac build servers, long build times, queueing problems, timeout limits introduced during a traffic surge, and a deployed build-process improvement intended to speed up affected builds. The change may affect some native code that relies on headers included by VM-generated code.

### Source excerpt

Since I haven't blogged in a while a lot of stuff has piled up on my desk and I'll get it out in batches in this post I'll go over a few of the bigger changes we did while I was away on the bootcamp and also give you a bit of an update on what we've been doing within the bootcamp itself. The week before we launched the bootcamp our Mac build servers reached a very heavy workload, this was becoming disruptive to our general developer population as builds got queued at a high rate. After a bit of investigation it seems that this could usually be pinned to specific users with very long build times.

The article explains why Codename One ran a bootcamp and why the author did not plan to run another. The goals included developing a highly skilled team, improving app UI and UX, learning how to better serve developers, producing videos more efficiently, and replacing outdated course materials.

### Source excerpt

I was chatting with one of the bootcamp attendants on the one on one calls and he asked me a question that I didn't think you'd care about but I'm guessing it would be interesting: "Why are you doing the bootcamp?". I was so focused on explaining the benefit to you that I neglected to explain what Codename One will gain from this bootcamp. This is probably something I should have explained before we closed registration as it would have explained why I have no intention of doing another bootcamp ever again. ### AI overview

The article announces a four-week bootcamp centered on building a mobile startup. Participants will learn Codename One, develop a mobile app with a server component, and work through production, finishing, and cleanup phases.

__ It's LIVE! Check out the bootcamp signup here. I'm going to build a new mobile startup within 2 weeks and teach some of you how that is done while doing that. Most people might assume I'm talking about one of those "MVP" cardboard startups... This isn't the case! We'll build a real ground breaking app with a server component that handles storage, push and a few other things you wouldn't expect and I plan to fit the whole thing in a two week time frame.

### AI overview

This commentary outlines an advanced Codename One bootcamp focused on UI/UX, building a production-grade mobile application, native interfaces, server connectivity, and communication layers. It also describes an existing Spring-based template for creating a client-server application and considers Spring Boot or JHipster for the bootcamp.

__ It's LIVE! Check out the bootcamp signup here. Thanks for all the comments and interest on the previous post. In that post I discussed the importance of great app design and showed some of the cool newish demos I built to highlight the general direction. I also talked about the importance of personal mentorship especially with new/elaborate mobile technologies where everything is different. I also discussed the bootcamp with broad strokes, I won't go into too many details about it today (I'll write more later in the week). Just to clarify the general direction, the main focus will be on UI/UX. This means we will build a complete production grade application from the ground up with server connectivity and everything... I'm aiming this as an advanced bootcamp (deep into native interfaces etc.) but I have provisions for people who are new to Codename One. One of the things that really excites me is getting to know you (our community) better on a more personal level. I find it very hard to keep up with all the thousands of people that I've communicated with in the past 5 years. Putting faces, voices and some context is something I'm eagerly looking forward to.

__ It's LIVE! Check out the bootcamp signup here. Thanks again to everyone who answered my questions. I got tons of valuable feedback on our work & what you would like to learn. It was super helpful and I'm grateful to all of you as you are literally shaping how this bootcamp (and the future of Codename One). I'm sorry if I was brief in some of the thank you emails, it took some time as I wrote them all personally and worked well into the night the other day.

### AI overview

Touchlab proposes organizing an advanced Android developer boot camp and asks the community for feedback on topics that serious Android developers should know.

### Source excerpt

We've been throwing around the idea a "boot camp" for advanced Android for a while now. Its been slowly brewing, but its time to pull it together. We're making a list of topics that a serious Android developer should be familiar with, but would like some feedback from the community. What have you learned that you think a serious developer should know?
