### AI overview

This article introduces Fine-Grained Admin Permissions V2 in Keycloak 26.2. It explains how FGAP V2 supports delegated administration and more granular management of users, clients, groups, and roles within a realm, with centralized permission management in the Admin Console.

### Source excerpt

For years, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) has been the cornerstone of authorization in many applications. Assigning users to roles provides a simple and effective way to manage access for common use cases. However, as applications become more complex and security requirements more demanding, RBAC alone often falls short. Keycloak is leveling up administrative access control with the release of Fine Grained Admin Permissions V2 a major step towards introducing delegated administration to Keycloak so that server administrators can assign management privileges to other users in a realm. By doing that, you should be able to reduce management costs and effort, and improve the overall efficiency and security of your deployments by authorizing access to specific resources in a realm. Why Fine-Grained Admin Permissions (FGAP) V2? In previous Keycloak versions, administrative access was largely driven by broad roles such as realm-admin or manage-users. While effective for simple setups, these roles often granted more access than necessary and lacked clarity around which actions they allowed. FGAP V2 introduces a cleaner, more deliberate permission model that enables: Granular access control over users, clients, groups, and roles Clear boundaries between operations--no more implicit permissions Easier management of the permissions and policies Better evaluation mechanism to allow authorization administrators audit the model ✨ Key Highlights 🧭 Centralized Permissions Management A new Permissions section in the Admin Console provides a single place to view and manage all fine-grained permissions for a realm. This simplifies navigation and makes it easier to design and audit your permission model. 🔍 Improved Manageability and Evaluation Permissions are now easier to discover, filter, and evaluate. You can inspect which scopes are assigned to which identities--making it more transparent and manageable to build tailored administrative roles. 🎯 Resource-Specific and Global Permissi

A tutorial showing how to create simple colorful console logs in Node.js with ANSI escape codes, including a small reusable script, recommendations for picocolors and Chalk, and a browser-console alternative using CSS.

### Source excerpt

When writing Node.js scripts, I often want to output information to the console in different colors. Usually, it is to get the user's attention and signalize success or error. I could reach for a battle-tested library like Chalk, but I usually don't need all of its features. Instead, I have a tiny script I copy from project to project: const reset = "\x1b[0m"; const log = { green: (text) => console.log("\x1b[32m" + text + reset), red: (text) => console.log("\x1b[31m" + text + reset), blue: (text) => console.log("\x1b[34m" + text + reset), yellow: (text) => console.log("\x1b[33m" + text + reset), }; Then, I can easily log things in color: log.green("This seems like a very successful message"); log.red("Something might have gone wrong"); log.blue("I'm here to inform you of something"); log.yellow("Lemon 🍋"); Once executed, it looks like this: How it works # The script uses something called ANSI escape codes. It is a way to give commands to a terminal by passing sequences of bytes, usually starting with an ASCII escape character \x1b. They are mostly used to move the cursor and to change the color or styling of the text. They are standardized, and they should work on any platform. For example, \x1b[31m is an escape sequence that tells our terminal to switch color to red. All text after it will be red, until we pass the reset sequence \x1b[0m, which will revert text to the default color. More robust version # If you need more features, I suggest using an existing library. I usually recommend picking one of these two: picocolors - when I need more robust but still lightweight library Chalk - when I need a fully featured coloring library Browser # As a bonus, let's see how we can use color in a browser's console. Escape sequences are not going to work, but we can actually use CSS. console.log("%c🍋 Lemon", "background: black; color: yellow;"); Everything after %c will be styled using CSS defined in the parameter after it. Open the console in your browser and click on the b

As of right now, this is a read-only view of the console. This is still extremely useful on targets where the kernel-based virtual consoles will not work. ### AI overview

A developer shares three browser bookmarklets for web development: identifying elements that cause horizontal scrolling, making page text editable, and toggling between right-to-left and left-to-right layout directions.

### Source excerpt

Today I want to share three bookmarklets I love to use in development. You can add them to your browser, by creating a new bookmark and entering bookmarklet code instead of URL. Clicking on a bookmarkletI usually keep them in the bookmarks bar to make them easier to find. , will run the code snippet on the page you are currently on. For each bookmarklet I added a button to try it on this page. Find elements causing horizontal scroll # I found this one long time ago, and I have been copy-pasting it to every new machine since. It is super practical and it will highlight and log all elements that are causing pesky horizontal page scroll. javascript:void(function () { var documentWidth = document.documentElement.offsetWidth; var treeWalker = document.createTreeWalker(document.body, NodeFilter.SHOW_ELEMENT); while (treeWalker.nextNode()) { var rect = treeWalker.currentNode.getBoundingClientRect(); if (rect.right > documentWidth || rect.left < 0) { treeWalker.currentNode.style.setProperty('outline', '1px dotted red', 'important'); console.log(treeWalker.currentNode); } }; }()); One line version: javascript:void(function () { var documentWidth = document.documentElement.offsetWidth; var treeWalker = document.createTreeWalker(document.body, NodeFilter.SHOW_ELEMENT); while (treeWalker.nextNode()) { var rect = treeWalker.currentNode.getBoundingClientRect(); if (rect.right > documentWidth || rect.left < 0) { treeWalker.currentNode.style.setProperty('outline', '1px dotted red', 'important'); console.log(treeWalker.currentNode); } }; }()); Horizontal scroll detection Please note that my site has overflow-x: hidden on the content area. Make page editable # This will set contenteditable to true, allowing you to edit any text on the page. You can do the same thing using developer tools, but this one is just a little bit faster (and easier for non-developers). javascript:void(function () { document.body.contentEditable = 'true'; document.designMode = 'on'; }()); One line version: ja

A tutorial on setting up and using psql, PostgreSQL's command-line console. It explains interactive and scripting features, the REPL workflow, and configuration through the psqlrc file and environment variables.

### Source excerpt

PostgreSQL ships with an interactive console with the command line tool named psql. It can be used both for scripting and interactive usage and is moreover quite a powerful tool. Interactive features includes autocompletion, readline support (history searches, modern keyboard movements, etc), input and output redirection, formatted output, and more.

### AI overview

This tutorial examines why a console application's infinite loop fails when it uses getchar() to detect a key press. The call blocks loop execution, so the article explores the need for non-blocking keyboard input while retaining controlled termination and final output.

### Source excerpt

Probably one of the funniest moments while developing is when you realize that something that "looks easy" is not as straight forward as it seemed at first sight. The task was "really easy": Just creating a console app which (1)loops infinitely, (2)doing some tasks and (3) which breaks when the user decides to stop it (4)printing some valuable info before exiting. "Naaah, this is easy. I just need a while/for/do-while/whatever infinite loop, a printf message asking the user to press a specific key to stop it, then a getch() to capture the key in order to break/stop the loop, and finally another printf to print the valuable info: PROFIT!

### AI overview

This tutorial presents two public-domain Python helpers: make_compat_str decodes bytes or strings into Unicode, while print_to_console prints Unicode safely across terminals and output encodings. The helpers are used in PDFx.

### Source excerpt

String encoding and decoding as well as encoding detection can be a headache, more so in Python 2 than in Python 3. Here are two little helpers which are used in PDFx, the PDF metadata and reference extractor: make_compat_str - decode any kind of bytes/str into an unicode object print_to_console - print (unicode) strings to any kind of console (even windows with cp437, etc.) All of this code is in the public domain via The Unlicense.
